Book Title: The Great Wide Sea
Author: M.H. Herlong
Chapters: 42
Pages: 283
Type of book: Adventure
My rating: 3 star (out of five)
Setting: The Bahamas', USA/ An island
Plot: Ben, Dylan, and Gerry miss their mother after she dies in a car accident. But what will they do when their dad decides to sell the house and sail around the Bahamas for a year? Ben enjoys sailing...but he's not so sure. One morning, on the boat, the boys wake up to discover that their dad has disappeared and they are lost half way between the Bahamas and Bermuda. And to make matters worse, there is a huge storm is on the horizon.
Summary: It's hard to say. I like the adventure of it, the storm, the surviving. Although they do say some curse words. But the bound of the three brothers is very tight by the end of the book and they way they treat each other is nice. The words flow nicely, a little under pace, but nicely. I don't like the way Ben (the oldest) is treating his dad. I can understand he is grieving his mother's death and that he is mad at him for falling over-board because he thought he was trying to kill himself and leaving them to "die in that storm". But it is a good book.
Would I recommend this book: It depends. I would for 14 and +. It also depends on maturity level. (because of the bad words)
